Mother's Day gift ideas for the home

When Mother’s Day rolls around, it’s a great excuse to make a big deal of our mums, grans, and the other matriarch figures in our lives by getting them a present that they will treasure.

Your mum may love her hobbies, like sewing, painting or axe throwing (!), so buying her a hobby-related gift is an easy win! Other mums might not be so easy to buy for, so we’ve pulled together some ideas for presents for Mother’s Day that are sure to please every mum or gran.

Gift ideas for Mother's Day

Most mums will probably be happy to receive a card and some flowers on Mother’s Day, but that’s no excuse not to push the boat out. While figuring out what to buy shouldn’t be difficult, it can be tricky to select the perfect gift, but these thoughtful Mother’s Day gifts should win you some brownie points:

If your mum has some hobbies that she loves, consider buying her something she’ll use often - a new pair of swimming goggles or books on her favourite topic are both big wins!

Getting personalised gifts shows you’ve spent extra care getting a gift that’s unique to her – a necklace with her initial or an inscribed jewellery box would be perfect.

If you’re a little strapped for cash, get creative with your gift! Writing lots of thank you notes for everything she’s done for you can be a great way to lift a bad mood on a gloomy Monday morning!

If all else fails, ask your mum what she would like! No doubt there’s something she’s wanted for a while, and it’d make her day if you one, noticed, and two, delivered the goods yourself!

Thoughtful Mother's Day gifts

If these ideas haven’t stirred your gift-giving senses, let’s jump into some more specific examples sure to delight your fabulous mum!

For the green-fingered mums

If your mum loves to potter about the garden, growing her own veg and tending to the roses, why not nurture her wholesome hobby by grabbing her some gardening essentials? A set of initialled gardening gloves is another sweet present sure to make her smile – and if you’re on a budget, heading to your local garden centre for some veg or flower seeds you can grow together is a wonderful idea.

For the designer queens

Taking your fashionista mum on a trip to one of her favourite designer outlets is a great excuse to take her for a day out together. But if shopping isn’t on the cards or she prefers to buy online, consider a gift card from her favourite online store so you can browse together from the sofa!

For the gin lovers

Give your mum all the equipment she needs to truly enjoy Mother’s Day by getting her a cocktail set, complete with a bottle of her favourite tipple – but don’t forget the mixer! If you can pair it up with some funky sunglasses and a hilarious hat, you’ll create a funny and sweet gift that she won’t forget. For something a little more hands-on, check out a gin-tasting evening at a local distillery or gin bar.

For the Great British Bake-Off obsessives

If your mum is obsessed with Paul Hollywood and feeding you her latest baking creations, then lean into this love for baked goods by getting her some fancy new baking utensils. Or, if her baking skills could do with some… improvement, then why not attend a baking masterclass together? That way, you’ll share an unforgettable experience and be treated to yummy treats for years to come – result!

For the Do-It-Yourself icons

Whether it’s decorating the house herself or knowing that she’s the only person who’ll get the job done properly, a DIY-loving mum will love a practical gift, so investing in some top-quality DIY tools and storage would suit her to a T. This also applies to the hobbyists out there who love to make their own clothes, create their own crafts or hand-make gifts. Remember, storage is a must for all true hobbyists!

Even if one of our gift suggestions doesn’t perfectly suit your mum, you should have a much better idea of what she might love and the activities you could do together to celebrate her special day.
