Easy mocktail recipes to make at home

Christmas and New Year are well known to be the most drinking heavy periods of the year, however not everyone is keen to have a drink at every party they go to! But why shouldn’t they get to join in the fun too? A classy mocktail is a great way to ensure that your non-alcoholic guests still get to have a tasty drink and enjoy the social aspect of joining in with the cheers at New Year.

If you’re wondering ‘what is a mocktail’ or ‘what’s the difference between cocktails and mocktails?’, mocktails are generally the non-alcoholic version of a cocktail, still including all the tasty sugary goodness with no next day hangover! We’ve included our top five favourite easy mocktail recipes to make at home, as well as a mocktail recipe for the little ones to join in too!

Mojito mocktail

Mojitos are a classic favourite at parties, and why shouldn’t your non-alcoholic guests get to enjoy their minty, refreshing taste from some classy glasses? Make them this super quick and easy virgin mojito recipe and they’ll have just as much fun without the rum.

  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • small bunch mint
  • 3 limes, juiced
  • soda water

  1. Muddle the sugar with leaves from the mint using a pestle and mortar or a mini chopper.
  2. Put a handful of crushed ice into 2 tall glasses. Divide the lime juice between the glasses with the mint mix.
  3. Add a straw and top up with soda water.
  4. Drop a few ice cubes in; why not do it in style with our Stainless Steel Ice Bucket with Tongs?

Piña colada mocktail

This tropical treat is really easy to make into a refreshing mocktail, without skipping out on any of the flavours!

Freezing the pineapple chunks overnight before you make it makes for the perfect ice cube alternative, plus it makes you look like a great cocktail artist.

  • 2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
  • 120ml pineapple juice
  • 120ml coconut milk
  • 120ml simple syrup
  • 30ml fresh lime juice
  • fresh pineapple wedges for garnish
  • maraschino cherries for garnish

  1. Add the frozen pineapple chunks, pineapple juice, coconut milk, simple syrup, and lime juice to a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour into glasses and garnish with fresh pineapple and cherries if desired.

Strawberry daiquiri mocktail

Normally taken as a summertime beverage, this fruity number is also on our top line-up of Christmas cocktails that you can easily flip into a mocktail by leaving out the rum.

If you want to ramp up the strawberry flavour, add in more strawberries and amp up the amount of fruit juice you put in – maybe even swap your lemonade for orange juice.

  • 2 large strawberries, hulled
  • 4 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 180ml chilled lemonade
  • 4 cubes ice
  • lime wedges for garnish

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour into your favourite fancy glass to serve and garnish with lime wedges.

Sex on the beach mocktail

This mocktail is less sex on the beach and more like cuddles on the beach with the removal of the vodka and peach schnapps – but no less tasty and enjoyable!

The peach nectar is much thicker than your average peach juice, so it gives your cocktail a really lovely consistency. Use the Iridescent Cocktail Set to add even more colour to the whole experience!

  • 90ml cranberry juice
  • 90ml white grapefruit juice
  • 60ml peach nectar

  1. Fill a hurricane glass with ice cubes, if desired.
  2. Pour in each ingredient.
  3. Stir and serve.

Pornstar martini mocktail

Your guests will be more than ready to join in the fun with one of our pornstar martini mocktails – full of fresh passion fruit, tasty apple juice and sugary syrup. Complete with half a passion fruit and creamy froth on top, this mocktail passes the ‘fake it till you make it’ test!

  • passion fruit, plus an extra ½ to garnish
  • 50ml sparkling or cloudy apple juice
  • 15ml passion fruit syrup
  • 15ml lime juice
  • a few drops of vanilla extract

  1. Slice open the passion fruit and scoop out all the seeds into a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and shake well.
  3. Strain into a martini glass or copper moscow mule mug and garnish with the passion fruit half.

Mocktails for kids

Even though alcohol is a no-go for the little ones at your New Years party and on Christmas Day, they like to join in with the fancy food and drinks, so try making this tasty mocktail with them – it also makes for a healthy mocktail recipe as an alternative to the sugary numbers above.

We’ve included a slightly more broken-down method so the kids can read it aloud and help you make it!

  • orange juice
  • sugar-free lemonade
  • grenadine or pomegranate juice
  • orange slices or other fruit to serve

  1. Cut slices of orange or other fruits of your choice ready to decorate the glasses.
  2. Fill each glass about a third of the way up with orange juice.
  3. Add lemonade to fill the glass, leaving a small gap for the grenadine.
  4. Very slowly and carefully pour a small amount of grenadine into each glass. You may find it easier to pour a small amount of grenadine into a shot glass or other small glass first and pour from there. The grenadine should sink to the bottom to form a pretty red layer.
  5. Add a slice of orange to the side of each glass and finish off with a straw.

Hopefully these simple mocktail recipes will really show off your drink-making skills, and the kids’ mocktails will go down a treat with the little ones!
