How to host a great garden party in all weather

If there’s one thing us Brits can all agree on, a garden party is always one of the highlights of the summer calendar! Even if sometimes the British weather can be a little… unpredictable.

With the UK having an average 170 days of rain per year, it’s no surprise that we’re sometimes a little hesitant to plan a great party too far in advance. But, with Google searches for ‘garden party 2022’ increasing by 250% over the last 12 months, we know that many of us are still keen to get outdoors!

To help you host a fabulous garden party, we’ve provided plenty of helpful tips and tricks, as well as the practical garden furniture you’ll need that will keep you comfortable whatever the weather.

Practical pieces to invest in

First things first, you’re going to want to nail the most important element of any party – the food.

Regularly checking your cooking appliances, like an outdoor BBQ or stove, to make sure they’re maintained and working properly is crucial for any garden party. Equally, you’ll also want to give yourself a solution if the rain comes.

Remember to keep any under-cover areas that you are cooking or BBQing in well ventilated to avoid any nasty accidents – our  3m x 3m Grey Pop Up Gazebo Set is great for keeping the rain away when your burgers are cooking. Investing in a gazebo is also a great way to keep the sun off your heads, and they’re great for relaxing in the garden when the rain is pouring down!

While it might be summer, we know the temperature is likely to drop so firepits are a great way to keep guests warm throughout the evening, and they look cool too!

Your guests can also wrap up in spare blankets and gather around to toast marshmallows as the evening begins to draw to a close. There are plenty of styles and designs to suit every style of garden, including our Geo Fire Pit for a cute patio firepit, or our Round MgO Fire Pit for a stylish alternative.

Another great investment (that you’re sure to use again for summers to come) is picnic blankets for extra seating space. We don’t all have the space to keep lots of extra chairs and tables, so picnic blankets, like our blue herringbone picnic blanket, are a great affordable alternative.

Finishing touches to bring the party to life

Once you have the key practical pieces, you can start to think about the fun parts of your party – all the decorative elements and finishing touches that elevate your soirée from satisfactory to sensational!

One way to bring a party together is to choose a colour scheme you can use for all of your decorations, from table covers and napkins to bunting and party hats.

You can opt for reusable waterproof bunting or even make your own with colourful paper and fabric and a ball of string. And in the evening, swap out the bunting for a string of outdoor lights that offers a mature and simplistic look that still makes an impact as the sun goes down.

Getting together some fun games for children and adults alike is another excellent way to keep everyone entertained. There are plenty of options to choose from, whether you go traditional with garden croquet or all-out fun with giant Jenga. Children can also be easily entertained with toys and a paddling pool, but make sure they don’t get a hold of the garden hose as your adult guests may not be the happiest if they get soaked too!

Throw in a great playlist of party tunes and you’re ready to rock your garden party!
